When we newly got our French Bulldog puppy, we got fitted into his routine for about the first week or so. He had already left his mother at 8 weeks of his age, so it took him some more time to adjust. He slept in our room in his little crate, so we had a lot of nights without sleep with his constant  yelping.

But it was not just his adjustment , it was also his energy levels which was seeming like it had no bounds, even during the time of the night. Our puppy would not just get tired and go to bed, meaning we would still hear him scrabbling about at the dead of the night.

Getting a puppy prepared for bed at a particular time that suits it’s owner actually begins first thing after waking up in the morning. Your puppy dog requires regular during the day exercises and continual night time conditioning.

By creating a routine schedule like this, tiredness during the night can be taught to your puppy with a certain program of bedtime events.

Physical exercises and mental exercise stimulation for puppies need to be properly rationed at all times during the day, especially at bedtimes during the night, allow your  puppy be stimulated into wakefulness.

A short walk after having dinner, with time to urinate and defecate, you  should prepare your pup for a really quiet time before bed.

Some while later, round up  short periods of playful bonding, with the puppy in It’s bed. Reward your puppy and comfort it with a favourite chewing toy. However, stop all of the activities one hour before it’s bedtime. If you do not he could still be excited and will not get to sleep at night that easily.

Once it is bedtime for your canine toddler, you could dim the lights low, probably sing a lullaby if it is necessary and you insist that it stay put. Ignore any plaintive cries for any company.

Managing a canine toddler’s energy levels before bedtime to encourage sleeping on time

There are some several factors that could determine how much energy your puppy will have and whether or not you can get the puppy to sleep peacefully at night. When they are still so young, they play vigorously and tirelessly and would require to sleep more frequently. This energy levels they posses should be properly channeled into physical and mental exercise simulations.

Unlike cats, dogs are diurnal with really high energy levels in the morning. Their natural state is to sleep at hours of the night. An exercising schedule should take this into consideration.

At no time at all should a puppy be overexerted or exercised in such a manner that could inflict or cause any sort of injury to it’s still developing body. Though you might be really searching for the fastest way to make a puppy tired at night, please do not intentionally run them into a ground. Dogs of a brachycephalic such as the English Bulldog breed in particular will develop breathing problems.

1. Physical exercises and body stimulation

A known rule of thumb for physical exercise is to usually have 2 to 3 exercise sessions in a day, not exceeding more than 5 minutes multiplied by the age of the pup in months. For example, an exercise session and routine for a  6 month old puppy would last up to 30 minutes.

Walking is a very good exercise for growing puppies but you should put in mind that puppies should only be exposed to areas of the public once they have had all their shots by the vets. Low impact exercise and stimulation, like walking at a slow pace, is really good for their minds and their bodies.

It actually allows them to get familiar with their environment and furthermore stimulate all their senses and their brains as well. At the same time, it provides an exciting way  to teach your puppy the basics obedience while walking.

Ensure your puppy has lots of play in the day to make him tired at night for bed.

Keep the duration of each of the walk sessions  within the scheduled exercise time frame.Use different routes as the puppy gets older.

Any exercise routine needs to be focused exactly on the puppy’s needs. though it would be of more efficiency to use the time to exercise your puppy while you jog your daily 5 miles, this is not good at all for young dogs.

Dogs should only run long distances once their joints are strong and capable enough, which should be around the time they are about a year old. Rather you have the puppy join you on a warming up lap and then continue the rest of the run on your own.

At home, some simple devices can be used to increase a puppy’s interest during their playtime. He or she might enjoy playing a game of tug of war with you. Care must be  at all times not to damage their teeth by pulling really hard. A flirt pole with a knot on the end will teach the puppy to jump and stalk within.

While playing with your puppy, build up it’s confidence by letting it to ‘win’ on occasions. Let  your pup catch the knot or run off with the tug of war prize.

Keeping up with a puppy for more than 30 minutes at a time may prove really tasking. Blowing of bubbles will require less stress for you on your part and seems to hold this endless fascination for dogs at all ages.

Playing a game of fetch with a small puppy can work indoors. As tempting as it can be to tire your dog out by having it run up and down the staircase a number of times to bring back an object, Just keep this to a minimum. Your puppy is not designed for repetitive exercises.

Most likely a young puppy’s favourite type of exercise is to antagonize an older dog. This is actually great way for your pets to bond and to use up a puppy’s energy. But this activity, too, should be properly managed so that the puppy does not get overly stimulated, and the older pet remains actually sane.

2. Mental Exercises

Making your puppy use it’s brain will be really beneficial as physical exercise and stimulation and will most likely use up as much energy.

Teaching your dog all obedience commands and tricks requires a lot coordination of it’s body and it’s mind.Sending your dog on a treasure search for treats or, if you do have the space, set up some sort of an obstacle course which will build different muscles and develop new essential skills.

Randomize their toys from time to time so that they can get to play with old favorites and interested by ‘new’ ones.

An older puppy will enjoy looking out through the window at the activities going on outside. My dogs will never cease the opportunity to be entertained by the bird life in the garden. I actually suspect they can dream about catching them when they sleep during the night.

3. A Basic Night Time Routine Schedule

Dogs are diurnal and naturally will show lower energy levels when the day  is about to end. Try building cues into your puppy’s evening routine schedule  and exercise session that enforce this.

An evening walk, after dinner time, will set the perfect tone for the night time routine schedule. Keep it shorter than those daytime walks, even if it is just a walk about in the garden. Allow your puppy enough time to explore it’s surroundings and to empty it’s bowels and bladder very well.

When you get back inside the house, ignore the puppy for a while so that it can settle any built up excitement. Throughout the evening time, keep stimuli to the bare minimum.Play some low key mind games and interact softly with the pup, if it starts bring mischievous

This is a puppy who is not actually ready for bed because he or she was not tired out enough during the time of the day.

These should not be challenging, something like placing a  toy underneath your leg can keep it amused. Your puppy will delight in doing anything with it’s favourite human person.

After another quick washing break, lead your puppy to it’s usual bed, where it feels secure and safe. You can either give it a favourite  toy to play with or with a calming bedtime treat.

Calming essential oils are readily available, for spraying on a dog’s bedding and covers. These need to be applied in little quantities as a dog’s sense of smell is far more greater than that of a human being.

Very Dedicated, some might say fanatics as, dog owners have been known to gently massage their pups or to sing and recite them a lullaby to sleep.

Reduce the lights and back out carefully.Continue with your own personal bedtime routine, all the while ignoring your dog.

Ensure your puppy sleeps throughout the night

At the beginning, while your puppy is being trained to use the toilet, it will wake up at intervals every three hours or so due to the pressure on it’s tiny bladder.

Be alert and set up your alarm to wake the dog, before it would do it in a natural manner, and take it to be it’s designated toilet. Slowly lengthen the periods of time between these urine breaks.

Your pup will slowly begin to feel secure in the routine that you already set up and will not necessarily feel the need to wake up by itself. Soon your dog will sleep very well through the night.

Conclusion

Now you know make your puppy tired before bed you should most likely get a bit more rest now.I can honestly having to compare having a puppy to it being alike to having a new born baby, at least, that is what my wife and I thought at the very first time.

However, you do need to appreciate, that just like little kids, puppies are not always going to go to sleep as often and when you would want them to. They are solely independent souls, and full of lots of energy and a lot of curiosity so sometimes it simply will not want to go to bed at night.
